Cedomon®
Cedomon® is a biopesticide. The active ingredient in the product is
the naturally occurring soil-dwelling bacterium Pseudomonas chlororaphis.
Cedomon® also contains other ingredients, such as rapeseed oil, which
allow it to function in practical applications.
Cedomon® is:
• Effective against several types of seed-borne diseases on barley
and oats.
• Environmentally friendly because it contains naturally occurring
bacteria and non toxic ingredients.
• Also accepted for use in organic farming.
• User-friendly and working-environment conscious, as the handling
of chemical substances and dust from chemically treated seed are avoided.
The product binds dust particles.
• Does not suppress the crops.
• In some countries, treated seed has also been approved for use as
feed.
• Not considered environmentally hazardous goods during transport
Cedomon® treated seed can be stored, transported and handled in the
same manner as normal seed. Treatment with Cedomon® does not reduce
the treatment capacity. In many cases capacity is actually increased. The
product can be used in most treatment equipment. In certain cases, the equipment
must be adjusted in order to manage the viscosity of the product as well
as the recommended dosage of 7.5 liters/ton of seed. The product can be
stored in unopened packaging at 4ºC to 8ºC for up to eight weeks
after delivery. It may be stored at room temperature for up to three weeks
before use. All packaging is marked with a used before date. The product
must be stirred before use. Partial emptying of the packages is not recommended.
Treated seed can be stored for up to one year. BioAgri also recommends that
the seed health be analysed before treatment. Special attention should be
given if barley loose smut (Ustilago nuda) is present, since Cedomon®
is not sufficiently effective against this pathogen.
Cedomon® is the result of more than ten years of intensive research
and testing at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU) in
Uppsala, Sweden, followed by several years of product development by Lantmännen
BioAgri AB. Cedomon® is currently approved for use in Sweden, Finland,
Norway, Denmark, Poland, Lithuania and Italy. Cedomon® will be approved
in additional European countries following the approval of relevant authorities.
A large portion of Swedish grain seed is treated with Cedomon®. Since
its launch in 1997, a total of approx. two million hectares in several countries
have been sown with Cedomon® treated seed.
Torsion testing of seed drilling machine
It is important that users of Cedomon® treated seed perform torsion
or operating tests. Remember in this case that:
• Experience shows that output must be increased slightly, approx.
5% in comparison to untreated seed.
• Repeated calibration is occasionally required after 1-2 fillings.
• The amount of seed may be altered if you change to another seed
batch or another pesticide
